Personal Stories in Place

Personal Stories in Place explores how memory and experiences create meaningful perspectives on the built environment. In a world dominated by digitalisation, this project intends to help people seek deeper, authentic connections to their surroundings, encouraging thought into how emotions, memories and sense of belonging are intertwined with present buildings and places. Buildings should be viewed as something more than just a functional space; this project serves as a reminder that nostalgic narratives can be produced within these settings. Personal Stories in Place includes a collection of 56 personal memories, each from a specific location across Brighton. These stories reveal how ordinary buildings and public spaces become deeply meaningful through lived experience, including stories of joy, nostalgia, love, or loss.
