Common Ground

The UK is arguably best known for its drinking culture, however, we are experiencing a noticeable decline in how much we drink. Many people are choosing to reduce their alcohol consumption or stop drinking altogether. This can present many challenges in social settings as often our way of maintaining social connections is through alcohol. That’s why I wanted to explore ways in which I could create community and reflect the feelings of excitement and joy that comes with a night in the pub, into a non drinkers world. Through researching existing social dynamics and gaps in support, I have created a set of tools designed to assist the non drinker to stay connected with friends and feel confident and comfortable in their decision not to drink. Common Ground is a platform, a space, a community for anyone, drinkers or not. The app provides ideas for socialising that aren’t centred around drinking, the card game is a playful tool to get everyone involved, whether it be at the pub, home, or any social space. The drinks packaging gives you a drink worth drinking. This is all encapsulated in the identity book which houses the visual language of the whole project.
