GRLXBTN

GRLXBTN is a visual and interactive non-profit campaign that empowers women and LGBTQ+ individuals within skateboarding, a sport historically dominated by male culture. Through a series of photographic works, printed media, and DIY-inspired zines and paraphernalia, GRLX addresses the underrepresentation of marginalised communities in public skate spaces, creating a safe space for people to skateboard. Rooted in personal experience and supported by academic research and first-hand interviews, GRLXBTN invites viewers to consider inclusivity, identity, and visibility in sport. This campaign aims to break down gendered perceptions of skateboarding and inspire a new generation to participate, regardless of gender identity. If you've always wanted to try skateboarding or want a safe and inclusive community to skateboard around, please consider coming to the next meet-up on the 19th of June, run by Sarah Brownlow.
