How can we slow ourselves down in this fast-paced world? And as someone with a chronic illness, why do I feel shame about resting? Disability activists have helped answer these questions. From urging us to “Piss on pity” to discussions around “#WhyDisabledPeopleDropOut,” this fight for justice is varied and unfortunately not over. With this knowledge, I've created this “bed banner” to honour this fight. Connecting disabled and chronically ill individuals from the past and present and how they teach us to move at the pace of our human bodies rather than prioritising productivity. I have chosen this medium of a textile banner in reference to the many protest banners used in disability activism history and, for me as the designer, it has encouraged me to actively slow down my making process. I am, in fact, “Getting My Degree From (and with) My Duvet”.
